Calendar of Events for 2010

  1. Our annual Frozen Finger Fun Fly is now history.  There was a great turn-out of hearty modellers to brave the not-too-cold morning of New Year's Day.  Everyone wished one another Seasons Greetings and stood around drinking hot chocolate or coffee and munching on some goodies provided by Dale Preston, John Taylor and Keith McLaren.  A few brave souls flew their planes in the cloudy sky with gentle snowflakes falling around them at times.  There was probably a total of 40 or so who turned out, and I was kept busy with renewing memberships.  A total of 18 members struggled with frozen pens to fill in the required paperwork in exchange for a 2010 membership card.
Thanks to Dale for the generator to keep the water hot and to John for trailing all the necessary stuff to provide the drinks.

  2. Our Season Opener went over quite well on Wednesday, May 5th. even with the change in the weather for the worse.  About 30 members turned up for a free hot dog and a pop.  A couple of brave souls flew, but the rest of us were content to stand around and try to keep warm and dry.

  3. Our Spring Fun Fly scheduled for Saturday, June 5th. is now history.  The weather was a little iffy at first but improved as the day wore on. Even with the ever increasing wind, most of the members flew at least once, with others flying multiple times.  The food was great (even if I do say so myself) as well as lots of prizes for many of those who flew.

  4. The summer Fun Fly follows on August 28th. with a rain date of the 29th.  The format again will follow the same as last year and again hopefully with fresh corn-on-the-cob as a bonus for lunch.

From the New Millenium

Click on the thumbnail to see a full size shot) of the first three flyers, along with their assistants, of the New Millennium taken at about 11:00 a.m. on New Years Day, Year 2000 .  That day turned out to be fairly warm and windy.  Temperature about 3° Celsius (or 38° Fahrenheit.)  There were cash prizes for the first three flyers in the air after an official start time of 10:00 a.m.  Gas and electric entries were excluded from the prize money since they would have an unfair advantage in being much easier to start than glow engines.

The First Three of 2000 Jean-Louis Ferndriger was first. He is third from right with his daughter to the left;  Edward Astudillo was second, far right, who flew Jack Johnson's plane, standing next to him;  and Don Gillion was third, far left with his son Chris, to the right.

The Whole Gang of 2000 Here is another thumbnail, (click on it to see a full size shot) of most of the members who turned out for the First Frozen Finger Fun Fly of the New Millennium. Notice the beautiful day and the excellent turnout.
